New Drugs

Rhys is no longer on Aderall.  That was just not working for him at all.  He has been on Daytrana for about three weeks now.

This is a patch, which goes on his narrow little butt.  It is controlled release so he gets a steady dose all day.  We are much, much happier with this one.  We are going to try a lighter dose, starting tomorrow, just to see if he will still have the positive effects with less drug.

School, therapy and home have all been much smoother on this med.

Owyn's third birthday party (it's complicated)

Yesterday we finally had Owyn's birthday part for his third birthday.  I was deployed on his actual birthday, so we planned to do it when I got home.  We had everything set up for the first week of April, and Owyn got pneumonia.  The next date we could get the pool for was yesterday, so another month had to pass.

Owyn had a great time.  It had all of the ingredients of a good party, in Owyn's book.  It had presents and pizza and cake.  Throw in a pool and you are set.

Nap time

Rhys took a nap in my lap the other day.  He has not done that in a long, long time.  Sadly, it was right before we were to head out for Owyn's belated birthday and I had to wake him early.  It was grand while it lasted though.

Books and movies

The boys recently discovered that they can watch movies on our laptops.  They are stoked.

Owyn is also discovering the joys of reading.  Rhys already loves his books.

Amaya

Today I picked up the boys on my way home from work.  Owyn was playing outside, and is easier to get to leave, so I grabbed him first.  We then went in to Rhys' classroom to get him.

Rhys was sitting on the floor with his friend Robby.  Robby is the center director's son, has some issues similar to Rhys and is Rhys' second best friend.  They also like to get in to terrible trouble together.

As I was kneeling down by Rhys, trying to get everything together into his "packpack" so we could go, Amaya came up to me.  Amaya is Rhys' best friend/girl friend, according to her.  "Rhys' daddy, for my birthday, what kind of cupcakes does Rhys like?"  "He likes all kinds."  Rhys - "Yeah, all kinds." 

Then Rhys reached out and, ever so gently, brushed the back of his hand along Amaya's cheek.  She just stood there like "Of course he is caressing me, Duh!".  We got the rest of Rhys' toys and comic books into his bag, he said "goodbye Robbie."  "Bye Rhys". 

As we were getting ready to walk out Rhys reached over and caressed her face one more time.

Star Wars

Rhys' favorite movie, right now, is Star Wars.  We are working our way through the first three movies.  By that I mean A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.  Those "other" movies are abominations and I refuse to count them.

Rhys is loving Star Wars.  Every night he wants to watch them again.  We have not gotten to Return of the Jedi yet.  He may be only five but he already appreciates the classics.

Yee Ha!

Right now Owyn's favorite movie is Toy Story 2.  He loves it, would watch it all day, adores it.  He runs around with Buzz and Woodie.  When we are out and about he pretends to be a cow boy.

This weekend we were at Costco.  He was running up and down the isles shouting "Yee Ha"  "I'm a cow boy, Yee Haw!".

Fun with forts

We have been having fun with forts today.  Yesterday, Tracy pulled out our tunnels for the boys to play in.  This morning I set up a fort in a corner and stuffed the tunnels into it.  They boys, of course, knew exactly what to do.
